CME & Certification
The Society is pleased to provide the following information about obesity medicine-specific continuing medical education (CME) programs, as well as how certification may be achieved through the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM). The Society's CME programs are designed to equip physicians and other clinic-based health providers with the latest knowledge and techniques about the treatment and management of patients affected by obesity and related conditions.
All ASBP CME is accepted by ABOM toward its certification exam requirements.
ASBP is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide CME for physicians. All CME is AMA (American Medical Association) PRA Category 1 Credit™. For live conferences, ASBP also provides Prescribed credits from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and hours of AOA (American Osteopathic Association) Category 2-A. The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME. For other non-physician learners, many allied health professional organizations recognize equivalent credit upon presentation of documentation that the Society will provide upon completion of a program.
